From Their Website:
“Welcome
To truly appreciate Lunenburg, one must savour it’s many unique charms. There is no finer vantage point from which to do so then The Dockside Inn and Restaurant. Strategically situated harbour side, “The Dockside” provides an unobstructed view of Luneburg’s famous Fisheries Museum, the colourful waterfront, and one of Lunenburg’s most historic districts. Not to mention the natural beauty of the Bluenose Golf Course just across the harbour and the Theresa E. Connor – last of the Saltbanker Schooners – moored just across the street.
Staying or dining at The Dockside gives you a front row seat to one of the finest cultural stages on the Eastern seaboard. Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, birthplace of the Schooner Bluenose and home port to Nova Scotia’s sailing ambassador, the Bluenose II.
The Dockside Restaurant
The grand old building which is home to The Dockside Inn & Restaurant was erected in 1901. It was originally the home of W.C. Smith and Co. – the fishing enterprise which evolved into National Sea Products Ltd. From this commanding waterfront location, the company’s operation of the lucrative fishing industry was managed.
The building still retains its two built-in safes embedded in the concrete corner section. One of the safes can be seen in the Old Town Restaurant. Our restaurant pays tribute to many of the icons of Lunenburg’s rich heritage including the replica of the HMS Bounty built in Lunenburg, the Schooner Bluenose, and the era of the Railroad.
Dining in history is further complimented by an extensive menu of maritime favourites. Seafood dishes and original recipes prepared in the “homemade” tradition have made The Dockside a preferred choice for both locals and visitors to our area. The Lobster tank assures fresh lobster and our “Feast of the Fishing Fleet Platter is not to be missed! Featuring lobster, scallops, haddock, salmon, and mussels, it is the perfect compliment to a hardy appetite.
Bus tours and large groups are welcomed. Whether old friends or new visitors, we look forward to serving you…”
My Review
This was a great location overlooking Lunenburg harbor. It was midafternoon when we arrived and a beautiful day. Decided to have a local ale and maybe a couple of appetizers. A nice cocktail shrimp served icy cold just the way I like them. Shrimp were very fresh, and the sauce had a zing. Also had mussels in a wine cream sauce that had lots of flavor.
