Photo Frederiction Competition 3 - Home Town Proud
Below are the images that I felt fitted the competition brief. It is always hard to decide which to finally choose but in the end it is a process of elimination and you just decide.
Submission 1 - Plus Judge Critique and Scores
Submission 1:
Let me start by saying I have limited images from the Fredericton area. I certainly will plan on taking more this summer. The framing is not exactly what I wanted but I am interested in the reviews and critiques. I loved the arches all in a row and the amazing brick work which is really what I wanted to show case with my phone. I did crop tightly to draw all the attention to the arches and brick work. We will see how it gets rated.

Judge 1 score : 7.5
Judge 1 Comments:
Effective use of B and W. Suitably sharp for the subject. To take subject beyond a documentary representation, try a different point of view, particularly one that elimimates the distracting trees and shadows on the left. Window and pillars are vertically off “true”. Adjustments in post processing can help with this. Consider cropping some of sky to eliminate some of distracting tree area and put more emphasis on building and to better balance tight crop on bottom.
Judge 2 Score : 7.5
Judge 2 Comments:
Monochrome works well with this subject. DOF keeps sharp detail throughout. Nice repetition throughout the image to keep the viewer engaged.
Judge 3 Score : 7.0
Judge 3 Comments :
The choice of monochrome emphasizes the repeating patterns of arches, columns, windows and chimneys and the exposure and focus are good. I find the distortion bothers me, and distracts from the patterns. Might be able to correct this with an editor in post.
Submission 2- Plus Judge Critique and Scores.
Submission 2:
Let me state with my limited photos from Fredericton I had limited chooses. i choose portrait for this one to draw the viewers focus to the layered brick work ending with the arch at the top. The walk way leads the viewer in the brick that takes you up the building. I did convert to black and white to add a little drama. I look forward to the critique.
